The name of the standard is not descriptive. It describes the current implementation language, but I think the difference between OpenSCENARIO 1 and OpenSCENARIO 2 is much deeper than purely whether it is written in XML or a custom DSL In fact, I have on and off thought about adding a DSL on top of OpenSCENARIO 1 (just making it easier to read, not changing any of the semantics). How about renaming the two standards to something that actually describes their difference in purpose?

Ben Engel:
Hi Thomas,
that point was brought up a few times in the discussions and is a clear disadvantage of the naming. It was weighed against the other options and both project, TSC and BoD decided that this was the option to take. We will not be reopening this topic again 😄

What a pity :( I find the new naming really unfortunate.
